Nursing Program Secures Grant
The El Camino College Nursing Program recently received the Assessment, Remediation and Retention for Associate Degree Nursing Program Grant from the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office for the second consecutive year. This one-year grant will provide $171,000 in funding to support students in the ECC Nursing Program.
The grant is designed to:
- Determine, through diagnostic assessment, those students who are ready to enter the nursing program.
- Provide pre-entry preparation for students who do not achieve the diagnostic assessment cut score.
- Support students enrolled in the nursing program to increase retention and completion rate to 85 percent or more.
- Increase the number of students who complete the program and pass the national licensure exam.
El Camino College's Associate Degree of Nursing program is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing and has graduated more than 2,500 registered nurses in the past 50 years. The majority of those graduates went on to obtain jobs in the South Bay. Upon completion of the program, graduates are ready to take the National Council Licensure Examination – Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN). Upon successfully passing the exam, the graduate is eligible to seek employment and work in fields such as intensive care, pediatrics, obstetrics, geriatrics, rehabilitation, oncology, cardiology, and occupational health. El Camino College's program partners with more than a dozen local hospitals and medical centers.
