Nursing Program Approval and HVACR Accreditation

The El Camino College Nursing Program as well as the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (HVACR) Program recently received accreditation/approval for meeting and/or exceeding standards.
The California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) voted this summer to continue approval of El Camino College’s Associate Degree of Nursing program, which has graduated more than 2,500 registered nurses in the past 50 years. About 120 nurses graduate each year, ready to work in specialty fields such as intensive care, pediatrics, obstetrics, geriatrics, rehabilitation, oncology, cardiology and occupational health. The ECC nursing program recently received a $171,000 Assessment, Remediation and Retention Grant from the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office to improve the attrition, retention and completion rates of the program. El Camino College Compton Center received a grant of $91,000. Funds will be used to help support prospective students seeking entry in the two programs, and purchase entry-level diagnostic exams to assess the readiness of students seeking admission, supporting tutoring and mentoring, and purchasing instructional tools. Funding will also be available to offset costs of review coursework to prepare graduates for licensing exams.
ECC’s HVACR program recently received a six-year accreditation from the HVAC Excellence Accreditation Review Committee for meeting and/or exceeding all standards. The accreditation team said that the ECC HVACR program “is one for others to emulate,” with additional praise going to the “exceptionally well-qualified instructors.” The visiting team was particularly impressed with Professor Tim Muckey’s “knowledge, experiences, education, passion, and commitment to the students and the success of the program.” El Camino College students learn and prepare for a career in a brand new campus facility with modern diagnostic tools and equipment, representing many new technologies. Cutting-edge courses prepare students for employment in this global industry, as they learn through lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on training. In addition, the ECC program was just rated No. 2 in the state and No. 29 in the nation for HVACR programs by Best-HVAC-schools.com.
