The El Camino College Center for the Arts is pleased to welcome the U.S. Army Field Band for an 8 p.m. performance on Nov. 5 in Marsee Auditorium. The Concert Band and Soldiers' Chorus of the United States Army Field Band will present Generations of Honor, The Soundtrack of the American Soldier." Admission and campus parking are free for this event that pays tribute to the dedicated service of our nation's soldiers and veterans.
Part of the Concert Band & Soldiers' Chorus Fall Tour 2018, the program will highlight music from Hollywood films that have made a large impact on American culture and the perception of soldiers' lives and sacrifices. This concert features the 60-member Concert Band and 29-member Soldiers' Chorus, using musical and visual elements to remind Americans of the contributions and sacrifice of our soldiers. The concert will feature Thomas Hooten, principal trumpet of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he has held since 2012. He began his professional career in 2000 with a trumpet/cornet position in "The President's Own" United States Marine Band in Washington, D.C.
Before the concert, several guest composers will participate in a discussion on the topic: "Scoring the Soldier's Story: how film music influences the stories of our Army's history, from past to present." Accomplished composers will discuss their experiences in writing music for various film, TV and media projects that depict the inspiration and perseverance of soldiers' service and sacrifice. Guests will include composers such as Mark Isham ("Once Upon A Time" TV series, "Crash"), Jeff Beal ("House of Cards," "The Long Road Home"), Laura Karpman ("Underground," "Paris Can Wait"), Joseph DeBeasi ("American Sniper"), Josh Moshier ("Baskets" TV series, "Happy Anniversary"), and Tim Simonec, renowned Hollywood composer/orchestrator/conductor/arranger.
Admission and campus parking are free, though tickets are required to attend the concert. ECC Veterans Day Celebration: The campus community is also invited to a Veterans Day celebration at 1 p.m. Nov. 6 in the East Dining Room. Sponsored by ECC Veterans Services, the event is designed to recognize and thank all El Camino College students, faculty, staff and managers who served our country. All ECC veterans are encouraged to attend. The program will include the El Camino College Police Honor Guard, which will present the flag and light refreshments will be served.
