Guided Pathways: Update
Now in its second year, the ECC Guided Pathways framework is designed to ensure the college is ready to meet students where they are, with a personalized path to success. The Guided Pathways framework uses a student-centered approach designed to dramatically increase the number of students earning degrees and certificates, reduce excess units, shorten the time to earn a degree, and close equity gaps
In a recent report to the Board of Trustees, Guided Pathways coordinators Jenny Simon and Janice Pon-Ishikawa outlined the program's progress. In the works are training programs, workgroups, and guiding principles, which will inform future decisions. Student focus groups are also in place to ensure student input in the process, and the importance of ECC Connect as an online platform for many Guided Pathways reforms was discussed.
Faculty coordinators Simon and Pon-Ishikawa organized a Guided Pathways workshop led by the Career Ladders Project, experts in the guided pathways framework. Approximately 85 participants attended the workshop, which was packed with information on how to get started with Guided Pathways. Examples of how other colleges are implementing the Guided Pathways framework helped bring the workshop information to life.
