Guided Pathways Help Students Reach Goals
In an effort to help reduce the time it takes for students to complete their academic goals, El Camino College has established a Guided Pathways program. In a recent report to the Board of Trustees, Associate Dean of Counseling and Student Success César Jiménez outlined the progress and objectives of the program. The Guided Pathways framework uses a student-centered approach to institutionwide transformation designed to dramatically increase the number of students earning community college degrees and certificates, while closing equity gaps. The framework is based on four foundational pillars:

  • Defining clear pathways for students
  • Directing students as they enter the pathway
  • Assisting students to stay on the path
  • Ensuring students are learning while on this pathway to completion

The ECC Guided Pathways program is part of a national effort to improve time to completion for students and is supported by the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office, with $150 million set aside for the colleges. At El Camino College, we have already started our efforts to define and clarify Guided Pathways for our students.
