Substance Abuse & DUI Awareness Fair
ECC's Student Health Services and the ECC Police Department recently presented a Substance Abuse & DUI Awareness Fair on the Library Lawn. Scheduled as part of Substance Abuse Prevention Month, the event focused on education and prevention, with displays, demonstrations and activities designed to show the dangers of substance abuse.
Students participated in a driving exercise where they attempted to maneuver golf carts through a controlled course while wearing special "DUI goggles" that simulate impairment. A "crash car" that was involved in an alcohol-related fatality was also parked on campus. ECC Police officers were available to talk to students and provided information about the dangers and consequences of driving under the influence. Organizations who participated in this event include:
- L.A. County Department of Public Health, Substance Abuse Prevention & Control
- L.A. County Tobacco Control and Prevention Program
- Mental Health Resources from Behavioral Health Services, National Alliance on Mental Illness, L.A. County Department of Mental Health, and Our Children LA
- Substance Abuse and Addiction Recovery Information from Los Angeles LGBT Center, Asian American Drug Abuse Program and Mothers Against Drunk Driving
- ECC Campus Resources: Student Health Services, Police Department, Veterans Services, Financial Aid and Warrior Pantry
