The LGBTQIA+ Safe Zone Project, with support from GSA Student Club and Student Equity and Achievement, organized a Transgender (Trans*)Awareness Day on Nov. 14. In an effort to create a safe space for transgender people to be heard and understood, this workshop/discussion led by professor Yun Chu offered students and the college community an opportunity to learn more about the Trans* community and their shared humanity. In addition, it was an event that brought awareness to, and honored, the worldwide deaths of Trans* women of color who have been killed due to their gender identity. Participants had the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with current Trans* students and staff about their experiences. El Camino College aims to provide equitable resources to celebrate and support our diverse student population. Counselors and campus safe zone allies are also available to provide additional assistance.
