Fall 2018 College Night
More than 600 prospective students and their families visited the El Camino College campus on Nov. 14 for Fall 2018 College Night, the most participants ever to attend this third annual event! The collegewide open house was a great success, with visitors learning about the college's numerous academic offerings, support services and educational resources available to students. Designed to introduce future students to the many opportunities at ECC, College Night featured workshops, a resource fair, and campus tours every 15 minutes, led by Ambassadors who shared their personal college experiences. Many Ambassadors noted that the nearly 250 tours they conducted were a great overall experience because the attendees were very engaged and interested in the college.
"I had about four tours during College Night and they were some of the best tours I've had the pleasure of doing!" said Jarek Vela, a first-year ambassador who graduated from North High School. "It was very enjoyable! I can't stress enough how amazing my first College Night was!"
Participants learned about financial aid, scholarships, and transfer strategies, among other topics of interest to new students. Academic deans shared information with attendees during "Donuts with the Deans." Outreach Counselors from El Camino College and local high schools spoke with guests during "Cookies with Counselors." During the event, participants received assistance in completing the ECC application for admission. Feedback from visitors was very positive, with specific kudos to the tours, the personalized attention and the variety of information available, along with additional high praise for a photo booth. According to one parent/guardian, everyone at the event was "very nice and helpful. Each table engaged us and answered our questions."
Thank you to Outreach and School Relations who planned this successful event with assistance and support of Facilities Planning and Services, Marketing & Communications (including the Copy Center), Counseling and Student Success, Student Support Services, and Enrollment Services. Thanks also go out to all those who shared their time and talent to show others how El Camino College is a place "where you belong and where you succeed."
