Coming Together and Moving Forward
Following the presidential election there have been some questions and concerns from ECC students regarding how any changes might impact them. In an effort to keep all students and employees apprised of factual information, a task force was convened with the support of the Academic Senate to coordinate information and communications with the campus community, and to follow up on suggestions across the campus. The Academic Senate held an information meeting on Dec. 2 for faculty, providing tips on how to address student concerns and provide resources. With input from the task force, additional professional development workshops/brown bag sessions will be scheduled. ASO members will be included in the discussion of issues important from students’ perspective. The Counseling Department recently organized an AB540 student meeting to solicit concerns, answer questions and direct students to appropriate resources – future meetings are planned. An FAQ web page will also be developed to address a variety of questions.

At this time, it is important for us to come together as a campus community and support each other and our students as we move forward. Inclusiveness has always been a strength of El Camino College, and is an integral part of our campus culture. Respect for diversity of views is one of our core values. We will continue to stay in touch with the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office and our system leadership regarding the best approach to meeting the needs of students during times of uncertainty.
