Cyber Security – Be Safe from Phishing!
During the holidays, cybercrimes such as "phishing" are increasingly prevalent. Phishing is a cybercrime in which a target or targets are contacted by email, telephone (social engineering) or text message (smishing) by someone posing as a legitimate business or institution in an attempt to lure individuals into providing sensitive data such as personally identifiable information, banking and credit card details, and passwords. The information is then used to access important accounts and can result in identity theft and financial loss. View the November 2016 Monthly Staff Security Briefing from ECC's Cybersecurity Department to read about some of the top holiday phishing scams and ways you can protect yourself.
The Fall 2017 ECC Professional Development Day cybersecurity presentation, "Phishing Attacks – How to Prevent Them from Being Successful" is also a great resource to learn more about how to protect yourself from this increasingly common crime: http://www.elcamino.edu/about/depts/its/techservices/infosec.aspx
