Community members were recently invited to campus to attend a panel discussion on how to start and sustain a successful small business. “Community Connect: Starting and Growing Your Own Business” was the first in a series of free events led by President Thames that offers information and resources to the community. Representatives the from Small Business Administration (SBA), El Camino’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC), California Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA), and CDC Small Business Finance participated in a discussion that offered practical tips, strategies, and pitfalls to avoid while starting a new enterprise. A resource fair featuring representatives from small business support organizations was also part of the event. Sponsored by the Office of the President and Library & Learning Resources, new “Community Connect” opportunities will be available each semester.
