Successful Active Shooter Drill Completed
A comprehensive Active Shooter Drill this past spring was a great success, thanks to the cooperation and engagement of many on-campus participants and outside agencies. Practicing our emergency response procedures is crucial to ensure that we are prepared in the event of an actual crisis. Staged in the Bookstore, the drill gave campus police the opportunity to practice tactical training and maneuvering, while putting set protocols through several scenarios. We appreciate the involvement of police departments from Gardena, Torrance, Hawthorne, and Compton College, in addition to Los Angeles County Fire Department Engine No. 158. All contributed to the success of the drill. Creating a safe, secure environment for students, employees, and visitors is our top priority. Thank you to everyone who worked together to make this drill a success. For more emergency drill information or questions, view www.elcamino.edu/emergency-drill.
Summer Safety: Workplace Reminders
As a reminder, all employees should keep safety in mind as we enter the summer months. For example, please remember to lock office doors when leaving. In addition, do not leave cash or personal valuables in your office/workstation and be sure to secure valuables at all times. Remember, if you see or hear something that does not appear quite right to you, please contact campus police. You may remain anonymous. Working together, we can maintain safety on campus.
El Camino College Police Department Safety Recommendations
- Trust your instincts - If you notice something that doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t.
- If you see something, say something. By working together, we all contribute to the safety of our campus.
- In an emergency, contact Campus Police by calling 911 from a landline phone, 310-660-3100 from a cell phone, or use a campus “Code Blue” emergency phone.
- Have keys in hand before walking to your car.
- Always be aware of your surroundings. Remember the use of cell phones may significantly distract you.
- Don’t walk alone. Use the buddy system.
- Use ECC Courtesy Shuttle operated by ECC Police; on-call 24 hours. Use one of the police phones located throughout campus or call 310-660-3100.
- Know your resources! Know who to contact and where you should go if you or a friend needs help. Notice where emergency phones are located on campus and program the Campus Police Department phone number into your cell phone for easy access.
- Night students and faculty are encouraged to park in the same general area as other faculty or students with night classes in their building. This provides the opportunity for a group of students and faculty to walk together to their cars after dark.
- Immediately report any suspicious activity to campus police.
- Be alert! Be prepared!
