Join the Center for the Arts for the virtual performance of "Months on End" by Craig Pospisil and directed by Matthew Singletary. This play asks, "How much can your life change in just 12 months?" In a series of comic scenes, "Months on End" examines the sometimes-difficult subjects of life, love, and even death with a tender and darkly funny voice. View all this unfold through the lens of 10 people and their interactions with one another. Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. March 26-27 and April 2-3; additional performances are set for 3 p.m. March 28 and April 4. Tickets are $10 and are available for purchase at www.centerforthearts.org.

Concert Jazz Band: A major area of focus for the Concert Jazz Band this past fall was exploring the rich history of jazz as protest music, and how this connection relates richly to current events in our communities. Under the direction of Dr. David Moyer, the ECC Concert Jazz Band recorded two pieces of music tied to this theme: "Cristo Redentor" by pianist/composer Duke Pearson, and John Coltrane's powerful "Alabama." Pearson's work has gone on to be used in a myriad of films dealing with issues of civil rights. Coltrane's melody was composed using the cadence of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s eulogy for the victims of the 1963 bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. The band was fortunate to be joined by guest artist Dr. Teodross Avery (tenor sax), assistant professor of jazz studies and contemporary music at CSU Dominguez Hills on "Alabama."
