The college community is invited to celebrate spring at El Camino College's 22nd Annual Cherry Blossom Festival, scheduled for 1:15-2:15 p.m. March 31 at the Student Services Plaza. El Camino students will share their original haiku poetry, and professional taiko drum group Mujō Dream Flight will perform. Traditional Japanese refreshments will be served.
The Dr. Nadine Ishitani Hata Memorial Cherry Blossom Festival honors the college's former Vice President of Academic Affairs, who passed away in 2005. Dr. Hata was an internationally known scholar devoted to academia and community work. She was instrumental in bringing the cherry trees to the campus 22 years ago, one of the many programs she supported during her 34-year career at El Camino College. American Honda Motor Co., Inc. donated the cherry trees and generously contributed to an endowed scholarship in her name in 2005. The Cherry Blossom Festival has become a festive college tradition that celebrates spring and friendship.
