Community Continues to Support Warrior Pantry

We are grateful for the continual outpouring of community support for the Warrior Pantry. Recent donations will go a long way to help our students facing food insecurity. Here's a look at some recent donations:

So Cal GasEl Camino and SoCal Gas Fuel Local Community
The Warrior Pantry is one of eight area organizations to join the Southern California Gas Company for the 2021 "Fueling Our Communities" program to help feed individuals experiencing food insecurity. The program will provide free gift cards to participants in the Warrior Pantry program for restaurants near and around campus. The program is funded by a $325,000 donation from the utility and is designed to also support small businesses. Read more about SoCalGas' Fueling Our Communities program online.

New Freezer Donation
lumensparqSupport for the Warrior Pantry continues from the nonprofit organization LumenSparQ, which recently donated a commercial-grade portable freezer. The addition of a freezer means the Warrior Pantry can accept and store perishable food items for distribution to students and their families in need. And, because the freezer is portable, the Warrior Pantry team can wheel the unit out during curbside distribution hours and offer perishable food items directly to students. Eagle Scout Project
Kudos to Ty Urabe and Drew Sasaki from Boy Scout Troop 242, who recently completed their Eagle Scout project by building heavy-duty wooden carts and donating food and toiletries to the Warrior Pantry. This project helped the teens qualify to become Eagle Scouts.

Riviera Garden Club Food Drive
The Riviera Garden Club delivered an entire 1964 Ford Mustang convertible full of donated food and toiletry items collected by club members. Club representative and longtime ECC Foundation donor Pati Johnson delivered the items in her sporty red convertible. Founded in 1957, the Riviera Garden Club is a local service organization, serving the city of Torrance and the South Bay community. The Riviera Garden Club holds fundraisers throughout the year to fund various scholarships, including an annual El Camino College Foundation scholarship.

National Charity League Donations
Many thanks also go the National Charity League Beachside Chapter, for making the Warrior Pantry the beneficiary of a nonperishable food and toiletry drive. Club members, including ECC Foundation Development Officer Heidi Wang, delivered an entire truckload of items valued at $2,500. NCL is a national mother/daughter philanthropy organization dedicated to serving local communities and provides leadership and cultural development opportunities to girls.

Arrowheart Foundation Support
Also, the Arrowheart Foundation, which supports the banks and credit unions industry, made an in-kind donation to the Warrior Pantry. This donation was made possible through El Camino College Foundation Board of Director, Jeff Kern, who is the relationship manager at Arrowhead Credit Union in Torrance.
