Holiday Safety
We wish everyone a safe holiday with family and friends!
Please remember to proceed with caution when driving on campus during these busy holiday times, especially as construction continues on campus. Here are some tips for both drivers and pedestrians:
Drivers: Be Alert, Responsible and Patient!
• Always be prepared to stop for pedestrians.
• Watch for pedestrians at all times; scan the road ahead.
• Look behind your vehicle for approaching pedestrians before backing-up; look in all directions before making a turn.
• Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, and when making right/left turns.
• Drive at all posted speed limits; come to a complete stop at STOP signs.
• Never pass/overtake a vehicle stopped for pedestrians.
• Do not use your cell phone while driving.
Pedestrians: Be Safe and Be Seen!
• Stand clear of buses, hedges, parked cars or other obstacles before crossing so drivers can see you; look before crossing!
• Cross streets at marked crosswalks or intersections; obey traffic signs.
• Always walk on the sidewalk; if there is no sidewalk, walk facing traffic.
• Walk with others.
• Don't assume vehicles will stop; make eye contact with drivers before crossing.
• Don't wear headphones or talk on a cell phone while crossing.
• Carry a flashlight when walking at night; cross in a well-lit area.
