William Allen Young

William Allen Young is an acclaimed actor, orator and advocate for higher education, in addition to being an El Camino College alumnus. In 1976, he was ranked as one of the top forensics team speakers among all community colleges in the nation. Young is a Washington, D.C. native who grew up South Central Los Angeles and graduated from Locke High School. His acting career spans two decades and includes starring roles on hit television shows such as “Moesha” and “CSI: Miami,” as well as in stage and film productions – including the Academy Award-nominated film, “A Soldier’s Story.” After ECC, he honed his skills at USC under the direction of his mentor, American theater icon John Houseman. While attending USC, Young led the Trojan debate squad to two consecutive National Championships and he is now a dynamic motivational speaker. He earned a master’s degree in sociolinguistics and a bachelor’s degree in rhetoric and debate. In addition to acting and speaking engagements, he established his own nonprofit organization, Young Center for Academic & Cultural Enrichment, where he works to create opportunities for economically disadvantaged youth so they can realize their dreams of earning a college degree.
