DUI Awareness Fair    

DUI FairAll are invited to attend El Camino College’s 12th Annual South Bay DUI Awareness Fair, featuring displays, workshops, and interactive demonstrations which show the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 2 on the Library Lawn.

 

Scheduled just in time for Spring Break, the DUI Awareness Fair is designed to increase community awareness about the dangerous consequences that can come from driving under the influence, or getting into a car that is operated by someone under the influence.

 

At one demonstration, students can participate in a driving exercise where they drive golf carts through a controlled course while wearing special "DUI goggles" that simulate intoxication so students can experience how being under the influence can affect reflexes.

 

A "crash car" that was involved in an alcohol-related accident will also be parked on campus, delivering a strong visual impact to students as they observe the direct result of driving under the influence.

 

The El Camino College Police Department in conjunction with the South Bay DUI Taskforce will sponsor this event. Members of 12 South Bay police agencies will be on hand to talk to students and provide valuable information about the dangers and consequences of driving under the influence. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) will also participate and present their perspective on the subject.

 

The work of El Camino College Police Department officers has been honored by awards from MADD; one ECC officer was recognized by the State of California for his outstanding performance in DUI arrests five years in a row.
