South Bay Promise to Expand for Fall

South Bay Promise to Expand for Fall

Continuing our goal to make a college education accessible and affordable, the El Camino College South Bay Promise program will expand this fall to include 500 high school graduates from the El Camino Community College District.

Through the South Bay Promise, high school graduates from the class of 2018 who attend ECC full time after graduation will have enrollment fees waived for the first year. Eligible students must enroll in El Camino College directly after graduating from a high school (public, charter, private, or home school) located within the district, which includes El Segundo, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lennox, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach and Torrance.

ECC launched the South Bay Promise in 2014, partnering with Inglewood Unified and Centinela Valley Union High school districts. We were pleased to welcome Torrance Unified School District to the South Bay Promise this past fall and now look forward to significantly increasing the reach of the program. Students will also have access to free tutoring and other support programs to make sure they are successful at El Camino College. Through the South Bay Promise, students can save more than $1,100 in college enrollment fees and can register for classes early with priority registration.

The governor's budget proposal includes funding of $46 million to help fund "promise programs" throughout the state. In the meantime, ECC will continue to work on local efforts to raise funds to support this program so that students will not only have access to higher education but also the services that they need to be successful and transfer or graduate and enter the workforce. Interested students must complete the South Bay Promise Application and ECC's Steps to Enrollment by April 30.
