2018 Climate Survey Planned

El Camino College will conduct campus climate surveys covering both employees and students this spring. Since 2001, the college has used locally developed surveys containing repeated questions to measure change over time, as well as new questions that reflect emerging needs and contexts. These surveys will provide employees and students the opportunity to share candid feedback about their experiences on campus and will help us make El Camino College a more welcoming and inclusive environment for all.

The employee Campus Climate Survey is one of the actions included in our 2016-2019 Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Plan and was reviewed and revised by a subcommittee of the EEO Advisory Committee. This survey is different from the EEO survey that was administered last spring, which was designed to better understand employees' beliefs about the college's diversity and inclusivity.

The employee Campus Climate Survey will ask employees about the general work environment, including beliefs about the college's mission, safety, sense of belonging, professional development, and job satisfaction. The survey will be emailed to all employees on April 17 and will be available online until May 4. Paper copies will be available in division offices. Please take the time to respond to the survey in a timely manner when it is distributed; it will take up to 20 minutes to complete. During that same time period, a different but related survey will be administered to students through a random selection of class sections. Students will complete the survey on their own mobile devices during class time, with limited paper copies available. We encourage all selected faculty to allow their students to participate in this important survey. Results from both surveys will be shared with all campus stakeholders this fall so that the college can identify and address areas for improvement. All survey responses will be anonymous.
