ECC's Warrior Pantry recently received large donations from Sugar Foods Corporation and Nissin Foods in an effort to help support students facing food insecurities. A substantial donation of 43 pallets of food from Sugar Foods, and a grand total of 1,200 packages of Cup Noodles were delivered to campus in the last few weeks. The donations will go a long way to assist our ECC students. Research indicates that students without proper nutrition can have trouble focusing on class work and often worry about where they will find their next meal.
Since opening in October 2017, ECC's Warrior Pantry has helped students achieve academic success by addressing food insecurities. According to the 2015 County of Los Angeles Public Health Report, the South Bay region served by El Camino College has the highest percentage of households experiencing food insecurity, at almost 37 percent. Since the fall 2018 semester, nearly 2,300 visits have been made to the Warrior Pantry by nearly 700 students. This is just a fraction of the 33 percent of students who reported high levels of food insecurity in El Camino College's 2018 Student Campus Climate Survey. Warrior Pantry services can be used by all currently enrolled El Camino College students needing assistance.
The Warrior Pantry is located on the El Camino College campus in room PHYS 116; donations are accepted year-round.
