2018 Climate Survey

All ECC employees are encouraged to participate in the 2018 Employee Campus Climate Survey. Participation in this important survey will help the college learn about the campus and workplace climate. Since 2001, the college has used locally developed surveys containing repeated questions to measure change over time, as well as new questions that reflect emerging needs and contexts. These surveys will provide employees and students the opportunity to share candid feedback about their experiences on campus and will help us make El Camino College a more welcoming and inclusive environment for all.

More information about the Employee Campus Climate Survey is found in the Frequently Asked Questions below:

What is Campus Climate? Evaluating the campus climate is important because it fosters trust and allows students, faculty and staff to reach their potential. To that end, this survey is designed to evaluate and inform the college's efforts to:

  • Improve the learning and working environment at ECC
  • Foster a safe, collaborative and positive community
  • Provide a caring leadership that empowers employees to participate in a diverse and multicultural campus
  • Support employees' ability to address the needs of underserved community members with the goal of creating a more inclusive environment

The campus climate survey is repeated on a regular basis to ensure we are staying on track to improve our climate and sense of belonging on campus.

Who is participating?

This survey is designed to be taken by all employees. Although your participation is voluntary, your response is essential in ensuring that the college can effectively meet the specific needs of its employees. It is therefore an important opportunity to share your voice, concerns, experiences and knowledge of what is working well on campus, and what could use improvement.

Students will also receive the opportunity to participate in the Student Campus Climate Survey to help the college learn about students' individual experiences as well. Together, the surveys will allow for a better understanding of current attitudes, practices and behaviors of campus life that play a role in the success of all campus community members.

How do I complete the survey?
The survey is available online, so you will be able to access it anywhere—from an office computer, laptop or smartphone. If you have limited internet access, paper copies of the survey will be available. Please see your division office if you are unable to take the survey online.

How long will the survey take?
The survey will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.

Are there any incentives to participate?
Yes! Employees who complete the survey may choose to enter an opportunity drawing for several prizes including a reserved campus parking space, ECC Warrior gear, lunch with the President (or class visit), and more! But more importantly, your participation provides a valuable contribution to this important campuswide assessment of our climate. Participation in the drawing will not link to survey responses.

What will happen to my responses?
Your responses will be anonymous. Your results will be combined with all others and summarized in a final report, scheduled for release in Fall 2018. The report will be published online and discussed widely at campus committees in the fall, with the goal of identifying areas for improvement.

What if I have questions?
If you have any questions about the survey, please contact Gina Park, Institutional Research & Planning ([email protected]).
