Student Success: HTP Students Break Records at Annual Conference
ECC Celebrates Pi Day

Congrats to our ECC Honors Transfer Program students who recently broke records at the 18th Annual Honors Transfer Council of California Student Research Conference at UC Irvine. A record number of 40 students gave poster or oral presentations at the April 7 event that drew approximately 500 community college students from throughout the state to present original research. A wide variety of high-quality research topics were on display at the conference, which also offered students the opportunity to network and meet new people.

In addition, a record number of six scholarships were given to ECC students, which comprises about 10 percent of all scholarships awarded at this statewide conference:

Exemplary Achievement:
  • Anthony Omole
  • Braulio Rosas
Outstanding Posters:
  • Bianca Martin
  • Adaeze Onwuka
Outstanding Abstract:
  • Yvette Sanders

Several El Camino College faculty and staff members also attended the conference, including Vice President Jean Shankweiler, Dean Robin Dreizler, HTP co-directors Rachel Williams and Joe Holliday, as well as faculty members Teresa Palos, Tom Cody, Kassia Wosick, Briita Halonen and Karen Whitney. Special thanks to the HTP faculty who helped out during a special practice session before the conference.
