Student Health Center: Open for Summer
The Student Health Center will be open during the 2018 summer term, from June 18 through Aug. 9. Students will pay a $17 fee when registering for classes, unless they qualify for exempt status. Students will have access to the same full range of medical and psychological services provided during the fall and spring semesters. These extended services provide students with quality medical services and continuity of care, as well as access to services by licensed clinical psychologists. The Student Health Center will also offer services needed before the start of the fall semester, such as required physicals for health sciences majors, and is an alternative to emergency services/911 for medical evaluation when a student is injured on campus during the summer term. Summer health services has been a priority for ECC students for several years and the Student Senate of the California Community Colleges passed a resolution in support of additional student health services in 2017 with support from ECC students.
Technology Update: Anti-Phishing Training
El Camino College will launch its first anti-phishing user training campaign in the near future. Phishing is a cybercrime in which a target or targets are contacted by email, telephone (social engineering) or text message (smishing) by someone posing as a legitimate business or institution in an attempt to lure individuals into providing sensitive data. The information is then used to access important accounts. Phishers also target higher education for proprietary info and research. Nationwide, 70 percent of universities have been victims of phishing attacks. The KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training program will provide information that will help secure the college against attacks. Watch for a brief instructional guide that will be sent out before the campuswide phishing tests begin. Everyone is invited to contact Paul Yoder, information systems security specialist, with any kind of cybersecurity questions: [email protected].
