El Camino College students and donors joined together at the annual Foundation Scholarship Awards Ceremony on May 9, where donors and recipients were able to meet each other and be recognized. This year's Foundation Scholarship Program will award more than $600,000 in scholarships to over 550 ECC students for the 2019-2020 academic year. The Foundation Scholarship Program continues to grow, with 14 new scholarships added this year to the already robust program. Since fall 2016, there has been a 20 percent increase in the number of scholarships awarded and more than a 22 percent increase in total scholarship funding. Scholarships in this comprehensive program range from $500 to $7,000 and can be used to cover tuition, books, fees and supplies. Awards are based on a variety of criteria, which can include academic achievement, financial need, leadership and community service, as well as organizational and campus club affiliations. Scholarship recipients have noted that these awards have made it possible for them to focus on schoolwork, with less worry about paying for enrollment fees and other college expenses. Many thanks to the numerous generous donors who support the Foundation Scholarship Program and truly believe that education has the power to change lives.
