DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

A.A. Degree
This degree is designed to provide students with a foundation in the science of psychology. Psychology majors will acquire the ability to survey theories critically, research the major areas of psychology, use descriptive and inferential statistics, design and conduct research, and write reports using analysis, argumentation, and proper psychological style. This major prepares students for career opportunities in fields such as teaching, research, and/or clinical practice. Competencies will be assessed regularly by evaluating student performance on exams, essays, and reports.

Note: UCLA’s Psychology Department recommends that you complete one quantitative reasoning course in statistics as preparation for upper division work. Transfer students must be admitted as Pre-Psychology majors in order to major in Psychology. Students originally admitted under other majors will not be permitted to change their major to Pre-Psychology or Psychology or to double major in Psychology. Only two major preparation courses are allowed during the spring semester. All other major preparation work needs to be completed by the preceding fall.
