Women in Technology
El Camino College’s Women in Technology (WIT) program has scheduled a free “Girls & Women Technical Conference" from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 15 in the college’s East Dining Room. This conference is part of the college’s Women History Month celebration and is designed to introduce women and girls to study paths and jobs in non-traditional careers. Workshops led by ECC Industry & Technology Division faculty and a resource/job fair are also on the day’s agenda.
The day begins with registration and a keynote presentation from Alejandra Torres, director of Women in Non-Traditional Employment Roles (WINTER). Workshops covering various career fields will follow. These “hands-on” interactive workshops will offer a look into career opportunities in areas such as: auto industry, architecture, construction and building trades, electronics, public utilities, fire technology, robotics, and transportation, among others.
Participants can also try out a variety of power tools and hand tools. Information on El Camino College programs, registered apprenticeships, and free job training opportunities will also be provided. The conference is sponsored by El Camino College’s Women in Technology (WIT) program, the Career Technical Education (CTE) Teacher Pipeline, and Career Pathways, as well as Women in Non-Traditional Employment Roles (WINTER).
