Welcome to the ECC Writing Center!
Students who need help starting an essay, proofing an essay, or guidance through writer’s block should visit the Writing Center for expert advice on the written word. In addition to the Writing Center website, students can access current information about the Writing Center on MyECC.
Don’t know where to begin? The Writing Center strongly encourages students to come in BEFORE starting a writing project. Just bring in the assignment sheet, and get help interpreting the assignment, generating ideas, and structuring the paper. Prewriting conferences also allow time to discuss other questions, such as quoting or parenthetical citations. Once students start writing a paper, they are limited to two conferences per assignment, but prewriting conferences are unlimited.
Full draft writing conferences are also available, where students can receive help organizing ideas and evaluating supporting evidence (two conferences per assignment / assignment sheet required). Please note that the Writing Center does not proofread essays for grammar.
Finally, students must remember to bring an assignment sheet or textbook prompt in order to sign up for a writing conference, in addition to student ID and a flash drive or CD for printing.
