Robotics

The robotics program at El Camino College (ECC) provides a comprehensive education that will enable you to enter any segment of the robotics industry, have lifelong skills and knowledge for job security. We have advanced robotics labs, R&D capabilities, industrial robots, underwater robots, industry-recognized certifications, and resources to support you, including a robotics library collection that is unmatched. The best part? You don’t need any previous experience to start.

Certificates

This is the certificate to aim for. It provides a full education required to not only survive but thrive in the robotics industry. In two years, you will be prepared for a variety of jobs within robotics.

  • Explore various types of robots, including underwater robots, industrial robots, commercial robots, rovers, and humanoid robots.
  • Learn the foundations of robotics engineering, sensors, electronics and computer-aided design.
  • Practice skills in building robots for all domains (land, sea, air and space).

After completing the certificate, you will be prepared to enter the robotics industry, more so than at any other community college in the nation. You will be able to apply your certificate towards virtually all industries and sectors that make use of robots. We help you identify which area you would like to work in before completing your certification, so that you may begin to start customizing your educational experience to what you desire. No previous experience is required to start!

This certificate is a great compliment to the robotics certificate of achievement. Smart manufacturing is the use of data and A.I. (through sensor-based technologies) to optimize or address an issue in a manufacturing setting (e.g. an assembly line, a warehouse making use of uncrewed ground vehicles, logistical hubs, etc.). The technology involved in Smart Manufacturing mirrors that of robotics. Having this certification will provide you with a skill-set and knowledge that few possess. Upon completion, you will have the ability to adapt any type of smart manufacturing setup to a given manufacturing/logistical configuration. There are no prerequisites to obtain this certification!

This non-credit certificate provides an impressive compliment to existing certificate offerings. The non-credit certificate course six 18-hour courses covering the following topics: Cyborg Technologies, Robotics Spacecraft, Swarm Robotics, Satellites and CubeSats, Algorithms, and Robots in Medicine & Healthcare. Each of these six topics are crucial to be aware of, as they will play a growing role in the robotics industry into the foreseeable future. You do not need any previous experience to earn this certification!

This certification is of particular importance. It is one of the most commonly used industrial arms in the robotics industry, from assembly lines and material processing centers to warehouses. Having this certification enables you to be able to deploy, operate, and program this versatile industrial arm across the industries and sectors that use them.

After graduation, you may enter the workplace in robotics, manufacturing, and robotics-related sub-groups (e.g. automation, robot kinematics). Your Robotics education from El Camino College may also be used as a stepping-stone to other robotics-related industries and sectors. We help you identify career options to best prepare you for your next steps after graduation.

  • Work in a range of job positions in the South Bay area from robotics to automation to manufacturing.
  • Pursue opportunities for advancement, such as apprenticeships and greater educational opportunities (e.g. degree in Robotics and related fields).
  • Career opportunities for this program are expected to grow year-over-year for decades to come. There is never a bad time to start, because the robotics industry is a growing and in-demand field.

Explore Career Opportunities

Before you complete your studies, you will have already explored career opportunities and pathways in the robotics industry. Some of this exploration will take place in robotics courses. Others will come in the form of apprenticeships, paid internships, and even on-the-job training before your studies are finished.

  • Gain knowledge through specialized seminars and lectures on current and future trends in the robotics industry.
  • Receive assistance with local job applications.
  • Support throughout the entire robotics pathway.
  • Acquire R&D skill-sets through the Robotics Club.

Check out our Robotics Club!

The robotics club serves as the informal R&D wing of the robotics program. Through participation in the robotics club, you will experience real-world projects, including building and operating underwater drones, have access to specialized A.I. modules, certification opportunities with industry-preferred cobots and smart manufacturing setups, as well as enhanced support in the form of internal and external scholarship opportunities.
