The U.S. trucking industry is expected to need over 1 million new drivers by 2030 due to retirements and growing demand for freight transportation.
El Camino College Community Education department's program provides a quality in-person approach to train you for a California Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) and prepare you to pass the DMV behind-the-wheel exam to earn your Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Once you obtain your Class A California Commercial Driver's License, you will be eligible for entry-level employment positions in the trucking industry.
Now is the time to start a lucrative and exciting career in transportation! In California, you may be hired to drive a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) carrying cargo that originates and terminates within state lines if you are at least 18 years old, and to drive for interstate commerce or transport hazardous materials/waste if you’re 21 or older. In either scenario, you need to hold a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) in order to drive a CMV. In this comprehensive course, you will obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to pass the California commercial truck class "A" driver's license written exam and driving test. To complete your license requirements, you must take the written exam and the driving test at the California DMV, which will be scheduled by your instructor. To register for this class, you must have a valid standard California Driver’s license. Please review the application for a full list of required documents needed to register.
