Akello Stone is a sociology professor at El Camino College whose teaching bridges academic rigor with creativity, critical thinking, and real-world relevance. He is committed to helping students better understand the social forces that shape identity, culture, inequality, technology, and everyday life.
In addition to teaching, Stone is a writer, speaker, and content creator whose work explores topics such as identity in the digital age, social consciousness, media literacy, and personal transformation. He is the author of Seeking Selfdom in the Age of Selfies and has appeared on numerous podcasts discussing sociology, culture, education, and the human condition.
Known for an engaging and student-centered teaching style, Stone encourages learners to connect sociological concepts to their lived experiences while developing analytical and communication skills that extend beyond the classroom. His interdisciplinary approach combines scholarship, storytelling, technology, and creativity to make sociology accessible, thought-provoking, and relevant to contemporary society.
Outside the classroom, he also works in media production, voice-over performance, creative storytelling, and is a yogi.
