El Camino Art Gallery to Present Special Events Through April

Special events planned for April in the El Camino College Art Gallery will feature a poetry workshop and an award-winning documentary. Additional exhibits, creative experiences and hands-on activities for makers of all ages and skill levels are available at the Art Gallery this spring; all are free and open to the public.

 

TextGetLit! Poetry Workshop

April 2 @ 1-3 p.m. | Art Gallery

Students and community members are invited to create a poem and read a poem in an interactive workshop that encourages literacy, wellness and creativity. Led by Diane Luby Lane, founder of Get Lit – Words Ignite, this special event offers a space for participants to express themselves through poetry. Since 2006, the Los Angeles-based Get Lit – Words Ignite has been a leading nonprofit presenter of literary performance, education, and teen poetry programs in Southern California.

“Beyond the Aggressives: 25 Years Later”Text

Documentary Screening
April 9 @ 1 p.m. | Art Gallery

The Art Gallery will screen the award-winning documentary “Beyond the Aggressives: 25 Years Later.” A sequel to the 2005 documentary, “The Aggressives,” filmmaker Daniel Peddle gathered four of the subjects featured in the original film and focuses on how much the language, culture and visibility of the transgender community has evolved during the last 25 years. “Beyond the Aggressives” won the 2024 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Documentary.
