El Camino College Forensics Team Dominates the Month of November in Back-to-Back Competitive Weekends
TORRANCE, Calif. — El Camino College is proud to announce that its award-winning Forensics Team has once again demonstrated exceptional skill and excellence, bringing home top honors after two highly competitive weekends across Southern California.
On November 8–9, the team traveled to California State University, Northridge, competing against 21 colleges and universities from across the Western United States. El Camino College earned the title of Community College Sweepstakes Champion, led by standout performances from team co-presidents Ashley Singh and Nia Gordon, who each captured gold medals in the Open Division of debate. Several additional El Camino competitors earned gold, silver, and bronze medals in a variety of speech and debate events.
Continuing their success, the team spent the following weekend competing over three days at tournaments hosted by Palomar College and Grossmont College in San Diego. Once again, El Camino College emerged as the top-performing community college, with individual competitors earning four gold medals, six silver, and six bronze.
In the Junior Division, David Khashchuk was named Top Speaker in Parliamentary Debate. In solo speech events, Zaynah Robb, who also serves as El Camino College’s ASO President, earned second place in both Impromptu and Extemporaneous Speaking—a remarkable achievement especially given that she competed against many fourth-year university students.
The team is now preparing for the Fall Championships at Moorpark College, December 5–7, where they aim to continue their tradition of excellence and bring further distinction to El Camino College.
The El Camino College award-winning Forensics Team is led and coached by ECC instructors Francesca Bishop, Brittany Hubble, Joseph Evans and Ben Mason. El Camino College extends its thanks to Dean Scott Kushigemachi and his team for facilitating travel, and to the College administration for their ongoing support of the Forensics Program.
