El Camino College Foundation Receives $100,000 Contribution from Honda to Expand Career Pathway Programs in the South Bay

December 15, 2025 Torrance, CA

El Camino College Foundation is the recipient of a $100,000 contribution from Honda that aims to drive workforce development forward in the Los Angeles–South Bay region.

The contribution will directly support El Camino College’s K-14 Career Pathway Programs—an innovative initiative designed to prepare high school and community college students for in-demand careers in sectors critical to the region’s economic growth. Areas of focus include Advanced Manufacturing, ICT/Digital Media, Life Sciences & Biotechnology, Health, Business & Entrepreneurship, and Energy, Construction & Utilities.

Through these programs, students participate in dual enrollment courses, hands-on projects, and immersive work-based learning experiences. In the Advanced Manufacturing pathway, for example, students gain exposure to careers in machine operation, maintenance, artificial intelligence, and automation—fields at the forefront of the evolving job market.

Honda’s support will provide updated course materials, industry-led design challenges, and field trips that connect classroom learning to real-world applications. In addition, faculty will benefit from externships with local businesses, gaining insights they can bring directly into their instruction. The funding will allow nearly 2,000 students to explore career opportunities, participate in capstone projects, and attend a newly launched career fair that strengthens the bridge between education and industry.

“Honda’s investment is more than a contribution—it’s a catalyst for opportunity and innovation,” said Dr. Brenda Thames, El Camino College Superintendent/President. “We’re deeply grateful for their continued support and commitment to the success of our students and our region.”

Honda has supported many of El Camino College Foundation’s programs, including those in Industry and Technology, STEM initiatives, the South Bay Promise, Warrior Pantry, Community Partners, scholarships, and campus event sponsorships.

"Education and career readiness are top priorities at Honda, which is why we are proud to support El Camino College Foundation’s Career Pathways Programs,” said Bobbie Trittschuh, manager of charitable giving at Honda. “This contribution reinforces our commitment to inspiring the next generation of skilled professionals.”

By investing in El Camino’s Career Pathways, Honda is helping to create a sustainable talent pipeline that will serve the South Bay economy for years to come.
