El Camino College Student Recognized as “2025 ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge Award” Winner
El Camino College student Nabeeha Muhammad was recently named as this year’s winner of the “ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge (ALL IN)” award recognizing students, faculty and staff, presidents, athletic coaches, partner organizations and election officials for their exemplary leadership in advancing nonpartisan student civic engagement. From civic learning to voter participation, these leaders are empowering students to become lifelong participants in our democracy. Earlier this month, ALL IN honored Nabeeha as the Campus Democracy Challenge award winner on ALL IN Awards Day, a virtual day of celebration. ALL IN supports more than 1,020 campuses nationally to make nonpartisan civic engagement an ongoing part of campus life.
Nabeeha is a third-year student, majoring in biology, and serves as the Director of External Affairs for the Associated Student Organization (ASO)—the representative student governing body at El Camino College. She led a team of students in organizing several on-campus voter registration activities as part of the California Secretary of State’s “Student Vote Project” in the weeks leading up to the Nov. 5, 2024 General Election. Due, in part, to Nabeeha’s leadership of ASO’s student voter registration team efforts, which also included shuttling students to local voting centers so they could cast their ballots in person, El Camino College received the Secretary of State’s honor of winning the “Best Civic and Voter Empowerment Action Plans” of all colleges and universities in the entire state of California. El Camino College landed in 11th place out of all community colleges in the state for registering new voters during the August 12- November 5, 2024 competition.
"I’m incredibly honored to be recognized on the ALL IN Student Voting Honor Roll,” Nabeeha explains. “This award means a great deal to me because it reflects all the work we’ve done to make civic engagement a reality and accessible to students. As Director of External Affairs, I’ve led voter outreach and advocacy efforts, but none of it would’ve been possible without the support of my team and our amazing advisors. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together—and I hope this recognition inspires even more students on our campus to get involved, raise their voices, and help shape the future."
El Camino College Director of Student Development, Ricardo Gonzalez praises Nabeeha for her “can do” spirit and ability to rally support from her fellow students.
“Nabeeha’s recognition with this award is a powerful reflection of her extraordinary leadership and the transformative role students can play in civic engagement,” expresses Gonzalez. “As the first student in ASO to ever receive this honor, she has truly put ASO on the map, bringing home our first major win through the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. Her creativity, strategic thinking, and unwavering commitment drove a series of innovative, student-centered voter engagement events throughout the fall, including voter shuttle programs that empowered countless students to cast their ballots. Her efforts contributed to a significant rise in student turnout during our last election cycle. We are deeply proud of Nabeeha for this achievement and her lasting impact on ASO, El Camino College, and the culture of student civic participation.”
According to ALL IN Executive Director, Jen Domagal-Goldman, students throughout the country made sure their voices were heard.
“Despite long lines and an increase in restrictive voting laws, college students did not sleep in on Election Day — they were determined to make their voices heard in 2024,” said Jen Domagal-Goldman, Executive Director of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. “Elections matter, and with 100,000 local elections happening across the country in 2025, ALL IN campuses continue to ensure that every student has the information they need to cast their ballot. The award winners recognized today lead by example, making nonpartisan voter participation a core part of campus life.”
