El Camino Robotics Exhibition Invites Community to Competition

Original inventions and innovative machines will be on display and ready to compete for a grand prize at El Camino College’s upcoming Robotics Exhibition. All ECC students, faculty, staff, high school students, and community members are invited to enter this unique competition, scheduled from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 6 throughout the first floor of the college’s ITEC Building.

Co-hosted by El Camino’s Industry & Technology Division and the Robotics Club, the competition will highlight a variety of creative robotics projects. Entries are due Dec. 1 and must be approved in advance through a poster board or presentation that explains the objective and design process of the robot.

El Camino’s outstanding robotics program has a long history of giving robotics students a head start to rewarding and remarkable careers in science and engineering. Through specialized classes and the active Robotics Club, students construct and test prototype robots while exploring fabrication technologies. Students also learn basic electronics theory and programming, electro-mechanical assembly, motors and micro-controller operation, and can explore careers. Meanwhile, the El Camino Robotics Club competes with other colleges and hosts events.

Most robots are made by hand from the ground up. This includes programming that allows them to operate under preset commands. Unavailable components are not a problem – students fabricate them as well. El Camino’s program offers students of all ages an opportunity to explore their interests, while learning how to overcome challenges and fix problems.
