Puffs

Magical “PUFFS” to Invade ECC on Weekends in May

May 9, 2025 Torrance, CA

For seven years, a certain boy wizard went to a certain Wizard School and conquered evil. This, however, is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs...who just happened to be there too.

Join the El Camino College Center for the Arts as it embarks on a tale for anyone who has never been destined to save the world. This clever and inventive two-act play gives audiences a new look at a familiar adventure from the perspective of three potential heroes just trying to make it through a magic school that proves to be very dangerous for children. Alongside them are the Puffs, a group of well-meaning, loyal outsiders who are so lovable and relatable, you’ll leave the theater wishing they were in the stories all along.

Puffs is a satirical romp through the world of a young wizard and his seven very eventful years at another school of magic for male and female wizards. It was originally developed as a 50-minute improv by Matt Cox and has since run on and off Broadway, delighting audiences across the United States. This 110-ish minutes version will whisk audiences away to a wonderful land called “Eng-Land” where magic is real, but the greatest power is love.

Performances for this hilarious play will run Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons and evenings beginning May 16 through May 25, in the El Camino Campus Theater. General admission tickets range from $10 to $15 and can be purchased at www.centerforthearts.org using the online ticketing system or by calling the Ticket Office at (310) 329-5345. The Ticket Office is open from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Puffs is directed by Naomi Buckley, who trained at The Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London, UK. Some of her favorite roles are Lucy in "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," and Laura in "A Glass Menagerie." She has directed over 30 shows including "Spring Awakening," "The 25th Annual Putnam Co. Spelling Bee," "MacBeth," "Machinal," "Noises Off!." "The Play That Goes Wrong," and "Our Dear Dead Drug Lord." She is currently teaching full time at California State University, Dominguez Hills and California State University, Fullerton and developing several screenplays with her producing partner, Jason Alisharan.

Special thanks to the Theatre Arts Program at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) for their collaboration and sharing of scenic elements, costumes, and properties allowed for this full-scale production of Puffs, presented by El Camino College. And a special “thank you” to Leon Wiebers, Chair of Theatre Arts Program at LMU, for his support of this ongoing collaboration.
