Warrior Debaters Take Tokyo by Storm

TOKYO, Japan— El Camino College Forensics Team beat out more than 100 schools when it won the International Forensics Association tournament, held March 13-14 in Tokyo, Japan in both International Public Debate (IPDA) and Impromptu Speaking competitions. El Camino’s small but mighty globe-trotting squad of only four students placed fifth in the overall competition, defeating many other colleges and universities from around the world with that had teams of ten or more students. Among the American schools were Vanderbilt University, Air Force Academy, Southern Methodist University, and many other universities and community colleges from California. 

El Camino College’s top winning students are:

Cody Hagemeier; “IPDA Champion”
Uzair Pasta; “IPDA Top Speaker;” “Impromptu Speaking Champion,” and second place in the “After Dinner Speaking,” competition.
Jana Abulablan; “Pose Interpretation” 6th place
