Mastering Material Made Easy with SI
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is not your average tutoring session. They are group study sessions led by trained peer SI Coaches. Our coaches demonstrate mastery of the subjects they support, and are trained to implement learning strategies and collaborative activities in their group study sessions.
Benefits of SI
Students gain academic support with subjects they’re struggling in, and refine learning skills such as:

- Group studying
Whether it’s Calculus or Chemistry, data has shown that consistent SI attendance leads to better grades. SI study groups support peer camaraderie, and help students gain academic self-confidence.

SI sessions are peer-led study group sessions where students review class content and materials on a weekly basis.
Students collaborate during planned group activities and use learning strategies that support applied practice of their subject.
A typical tutoring session is one on one, and usually involves a general overview of class content.
SI Coaches attend their supported class and collaborate with professors to develop a deep dive in class content. SI study sessions are powered by group interaction, by participating in structured activities students learn new study habits and master understanding class content together.

An SI Coach is a peer who has mastery of their subject and is trained in student academic support and learning techniques.
A typical workweek is 9-15+ hours. For example:
- 3 to 8 hours attending class lectures/labs, depending on the subject.
- 1 to 2 hours planning SI sessions.
- 2 hours facilitating SI sessions.
- ½ hour meeting with course instructor.
- Paid professional development and training throughout the semester.
