General Information

Last updated 5/3/2023

Commencement will be on Friday, June 9 at 4 p.m. in the Murdock Stadium.

El Camino College will be livestreaming the event so guests can watch online. Check back soon for more information.

Guests are not required to have tickets for entry and grads may invite as many guests as they wish. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Accessible and student parking is free on June 9, 2023, and we recommend parking in Lots C or F.

For those who plan to use accessible parking spots, we recommend parking in Lot F as this is the closest entry to Murdock Stadium.

We recommend guests arrive between 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm to give them enough time to park and walk to the Murdock Stadium before 4:00 pm. To ensure a safe and celebratory environment for graduates and their guests, all Commencement visitors must pass through electronic security checkpoints upon entry into the stadium.

Food, beverages, and graduation merchandise will be available in the Bookstore before the ceremony.

Graduates who attend the 3:00 pm information session on June 9, 2023 will know ahead of time which side of the stadium they will be seated. Graduates can contact their guests to advise them to sit on the same side.

We estimate that the ceremony will end at 6:30 pm. However, expect extra long wait times for you and your guests to exit the parking structures.

If you plan to enjoy dinner in a restaurant after the ceremony, we recommend a late evening reservation.

Regalia and Honors

Last updated 5/3/2023

Regalia is the cap and gown graduates wear.

Graduates are required to wear El Camino College regalia in order to participate in the commencement ceremony. You can purchase regalia from the Bookstore.

Grad Fest will be held in-person at the Bookstore on April 26 and April 27, 2023 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. This is when we launch the in-person sale of graduation merchandise and regalia (caps and gowns). Join us!

Between April 26 and June 9, view the online Bookstore or visit the physical location during regular business hours to purchase your merchandise.

If you are buying regalia on the online Bookstore, before checkout you will be asked your height and weight for correct sizing.

Students who visit the physical Bookstore location can try on sample gowns.

Everyone who submitted an intent to graduate in Spring 2023 is automatically invited to the commencement ceremony.

Even though your Spring 2023 classes are still in progress, you can go ahead and can buy regalia at the Bookstore starting April 26.

Please be aware that even if you attend the commencement ceremony, you must still pass all your classes, send in your transcripts from other colleges (if needed), and meet all other requirements in order to get your degree and/or certificate.

Students who filed an intent to graduate in Summer 2022, Fall 2022, and Spring 2023 are all considered the class of 2023 and should buy a 2023 tassel.

Graduates should wear their tassel on the right side of their cap.

At a certain point during the ceremony, graduates will be instructed to move the tassel to the left side.

Blue tassels are the standard commencement tassel. Gold tassels are for students with an honors designation. To get honors, you must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or more.

Honors is determined at the time your intent to graduate was filed. All degree applicable courses will be used to determine the grade point average for a degree.  This includes courses that are not specifically used for major and general education requirements such as electives.  Should a course from an outside, regionally accredited institution be needed to meet major and/or general education requirements, all degree applicable courses from the official transcript will be included to determine the overall grade point average for the degree.

Students who take additional classes after the filing date cannot use those extra classes to change their status to honors.

Students who have met honors requirements will automatically be given a gold tassel instead of a blue one when they purchase their regalia package (cap, gown, and tassel).

Only students who have a cumulative 3.5+ GPA receive the honors designation and may buy a gold tassel from the Bookstore.
