Metro U-Pass for Students

Getting to El Camino College just got easier with the Metro U-Pass! Travel anywhere participating transit systems go, anytime you need to, with unlimited rides throughout the semester.

Whether you're commuting to campus, heading to work, running errands, or exploring Southern California, the Metro U-Pass offers a convenient and affordable way to get around using a single pass.

Who Can Participate?

The Metro U-Pass is available to El Camino College students enrolled in credit or noncredit courses.

First Time to U-Pass?

Follow these steps to get a Metro U-Pass:

  1. Complete the Metro Survey (this is mandatory for first-time participation in the program)
  2. You will receive an email confirming that you completed the survey – save this email!
  3. Bring the Metro Survey confirmation email to the Basic Needs Center for verification.
  4. Complete the Basic Needs Intake form. (Must be completed each semester for renewal of Metro U-Pass)
  5. Once confirmed at the Basic Needs Center, you will receive instructions on when and how to pick up your Metro U-Pass
  6. Show your Metro U-Pass card before boarding and when asked by public transit staff 

Metro U-Pass Available Through the Basic Needs Center

Need help getting to school, work, or other important destinations? The Basic Needs Center offers the Metro U-Pass to eligible El Camino College students.

Students interested in receiving a Metro U-Pass can visit the Basic Needs Center and complete a Basic Needs Intake Form with assistance from our staff to determine eligibility for a free Metro U-Pass.

Office Hours:

  • Monday – Thursday
  • 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

No appointment is necessary. Students are encouraged to stop by during office hours to learn more about available transportation assistance and other Basic Needs resources.

Metro U-Pass Pricing - Summer 2026

The Metro U-Pass cost is prorated throughout the term to help make transportation more affordable as the semester progresses. Students who do not qualify for a free pass may still purchase a U-Pass at a reduced rate based on the date of purchase.

All U-Passes have an initial $2.00 setup fee.

Lost Your Metro U-Pass? No Problem!

If your Metro U-Pass or TAP card is lost, stolen, or damaged, you can obtain a replacement at the El Camino College Cashier's Office.

Replacement Instructions:

  1. Visit Cashier Window #4 on campus.
  2. Request a replacement Metro U-Pass/TAP card.
  3. Pay the $5.00 replacement processing fee.
  4. Your replacement card will be issued and ready for use on participating transit systems.

We recommend reporting a lost card and obtaining a replacement as soon as possible to avoid interruptions in your transportation services.
