Per AB 963: The Student Civic and Voter Empowerment Act, El Camino College formed the Students Voter Project (SVP) Committee to strengthen and coordinate campus efforts to increase student voter registration and turnout for the 2021 elections.
In 2014, 52% of students registered in California which is 20 points below any other age group. Only 8% voted (A Band of Voters). This is a key reason for the passage of AB963 and thus, the formation of the SVP Committee.
The SVP Committee is co-chaired by Minhyeong (Allen) Park, ASO Director of External Affairs, and Dr. Greg Toya, Director of Student Development.
The committee membership represents the various constituent groups of El Camino College including students, Classified Professionals, Faculty, and Administrators.
