The Women’s History Month Committee seeks women from the El Camino College campus and community to honor at this year’s Distinguished Women's Event.
The committee welcomes nominations of all individuals from a diverse range of experiences, backgrounds, and from those who have a demonstrated history of contributing to the El Camino College and/or to the surrounding community.
Those honored will:
The National Women’s History Alliance states,"In this pivotal moment of history, we are called to confront a range of overlapping global challenges: climate change, economic insecurity, healthcare disparities, and threats to democratic participation. These issues are deeply intertwined – and women, particularly from marginalized communities, often experience their impacts most acutely.
Yet women have also led the charge toward lasting solutions.
This year's theme, Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future, expands our understanding of sustainability beyond just environmental concerns. It encompasses financial sustainability, community resilience, leadership succession, and intergenerational equity.
Whether developing green technologies, advancing economic justice, strengthening education systems, or building civic power – women are designing blueprints for sustainable transformation.
This theme affirms that shaping a sustainable future means fostering systems that support both people and the planet".
Nominees must work at El Camino College and/or reside or work in the communities within
the El Camino College district: El Segundo, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Inglewood, Lawndale,
Lennox, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach and Torrance.
Friends, family, colleagues, or students may make nominations, or individuals may
nominate themselves.
Nominee will be considered based on:
• their contribution(s) to women’s and girls’ causes at the college or community level;
• how they embody this year’s National Women’s History Month theme: “Leading the Change:
Women Shaping a Sustainable Future."
