As you may know, Los Angeles County is prioritizing distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine using a phased system implemented by the State of California. This plan is currently in Phase 1A, which is comprised of healthcare care workers. The next phase is Phase 1B. Tier 1 of Phase 1B will include individuals who work in education.
As you can see from this Los Angeles County Department of Public Health document, Phase 1B Tier 1 has not yet begun. It’s estimated this phase of the plan will begin in early February, although that’s not guaranteed. Unfortunately, as is the case across much of the nation, Los Angeles County is behind schedule on rolling out the vaccine in Phase 1A. This document is also posted on our COVID-19 website.
As an institution of higher education in Los Angeles County, El Camino College is closely monitoring guidance and instruction from our local public health officials. When additional information is released about access to the vaccine for education workers in Phase 1B Tier 1, we will communicate it to the campus community.
Prior to the holidays and continuing now, President Maloney has been in contact with the Chancellor’s Office and a local hospital regarding vaccinations of our Allied Health students who work in clinical settings, along with the faculty who observe them in the clinical setting. She is working on this on behalf of our faculty and students.
Additionally, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is allowing vaccination of campus health center personnel who work with patients. President Maloney has been in constant communication with Susan Nilles, Faculty Coordinator of Student Health Services, and the COVID-19 Task Force as we work through this pandemic.
