Student Spotlight: Julio Meneses Miranda
After starting and stopping his academic journey over the past eight years, Julio Meneses Miranda is now settled in at El Camino’s top-tier Nursing Program, moving closer to his dream of becoming a medical professional. Financial security was one of several obstacles Meneses Miranda overcame in pursuit of his education. Working full time and attending classes was already an extreme challenge, but once he entered the Nursing Program, he had to shift to part-time work due to the demanding nature of the coursework. His financial burden was lifted with support from El Camino’s life-changing Noreen Noel Memorial Scholarship for Nursing, allowing him to fully focus on his education. The 4.0 student received this $8,500 award in 2025, disbursed over two years in the program.
“This scholarship was probably one of the best awards that I could have received; it was the result and the reward after years of hard work, effort and discipline,” he said. “Looking back, it was a highly challenging path that pushed me to my limits, yet every time I was able to surpass them thanks to the wonderful people at El Camino College.”
Now in his second year of the Nursing Program, Meneses Miranda plans to graduate in spring 2027.
“Since I've started at El Camino, I was presented with many opportunities that would allow me to thrive as a professional and as a person,” he said. “Clearly, I’m conscious of the amount of effort and hard work still ahead of me to achieve these goals, including going into higher education programs like bachelor’s, doctorates, and master’s degrees. But I can guarantee, I still have a lot of resilience in me, with the final objective to become the best professional I possibly can.”
