Student Spotlight: Michael Davis
When Michael Davis enrolled in El Camino College after graduating from Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach, he admits that he was not a stellar student. After a few semesters trying out seven different majors from art history to geology, he completely turned his academic career around and graduated from ECC with honors as a biochemistry major.
"El Camino College was amazing; it changed my life!" said Davis, who was also an active member of the ECC Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement, or MESA/STEM, program. "When I left high school, I didn't have a lot of motivation. Then, when I came to El Camino, all the professors were so caring and driven, it made me want to work harder."
With plans to transfer to the University of California, Santa Barbara in the fall, Davis is looking forward to a bright future - possibly in pharmaceutical research – and feels prepared for university work.
"UC Santa Barbara is my dream school - I can't believe I'm going there," he said. "I will bring what I learned at El Camino College with me, along with the many friendships I made through studying for exams and working on lab reports."
