Emergency Preparedness

The El Camino College Police Department will host a multi-agency Active Shooter Drill in partnership with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Tactics and Survival Unit (TAS), along with multiple local law enforcement and fire agencies.

This drill is designed primarily as a training exercise for campus police and first responders to strengthen emergency preparedness, improve coordination across agencies, and test campus-wide safety systems.

Drill Information

The next Active Shooter Drill will take place:

  • Thursday, September 25, 2025
  • 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Old Arts Building
  • Parking Lots J & K will be closed for the duration of the drill.

This drill is designed primarily as a training exercise for campus police and first responders to strengthen emergency preparedness, improve coordination across agencies, and test campus-wide safety systems.

Participating agencies include the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Tactics and Survival Unit (TAS), Los Angeles County Fire Department, local police departments, and regional college police departments, with students assisting as role players.

Through realistic training scenarios, this exercise will help law enforcement assess response times, practice multi-agency collaboration, and ensure that El Camino College’s emergency systems—such as RAVE alerts, fire alarms, and lockdown procedures—function as intended.

While the event is focused on first responder training, faculty and staff are encouraged to view the FBI’s “Run, Hide, Fight” safety video and use it as a starting point for safety discussions with students and colleagues.
