Summer Financial Assistance

Financial Assistance for summer could be available to you. Your maximum financial aid eligibility for an award year is the equivalent of two full-time semesters for fall, spring, and summer. A full-time semester is a total of 12 or more units. The awards for summer and the eligibility criteria are listed below:

 

PELL AWARDS:

You may have Pell Grant eligibility for the summer if:

  1. You attended full-time (12 units or more) in the fall and spring term and are currently enrolled in six or more units for the summer term or...
  2. You have not attended two full-time semesters (12 or more units per term) in fall and spring semester
    • Maximum Pell grant eligibility is two full time semesters which is equivalent to 100% per year and inclusive of fall, spring and summer.
    • If you have not attended two full time semesters totaling 100% eligibility during the fall and spring, you could have remaining Pell grant eligibility to apply towards summer classes.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Summer financial aid is manually awarded. It will take time to review each student file. Only files in satisfactory academic standing will be reviewed starting now.
  • All Warning and SAP approved/LIL files will be evaluated for summer after we check grades and run the SAP calculation for spring 2022 (estimated date, July 12, 2022)
  • If you received 100% of your Pell award, you must enroll in 6 units or more to be eligible for additional Pell
  • If you did not receive 100% of your Pell award, you may be eligible for the remaining amount based on units enrolled
  • All eligibility standards apply for summer financial assistance including Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
  • Award amounts depend on your remaining eligibility and units enrolled for summer

Without a photo ID, we can only answer general financial aid questions. We recommend that you use a laptop or computer for Zoom. The Spring 2022 Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and Loss of California College Promise Grant (CCPG) Appeal is currently open for summer. If you do not have a break in enrollment your appeal cannot be processed until the SAP Calculation for Spring 2022 is completed (estimated date: July 25). The deadline for Summer 2022 is Thursday, August 4, 2022. If you wish to appeal for Fall 2022, the form will be published on Monday, September 12, 2022.

If you need help with the appeal please speak to an ECC counselor for guidance and support or attend a SAP Appeal Workshop by clicking this link: Register Online. Remember the following when submitting the appeal:

  1. Attach documentation for each term you're not meeting SAP (2.0 GPA & 67% completion rate)
  2. If you do not know the exact reason you are submitting an appeal you can check your SAP status on the Financial Aid Self Service Portal 
  3. Attach your current counselor approved comprehensive educational plan or Lock-in-List (Maximum Time Frame Appeals Only)
  4. Appeal decisions may take up to three to four weeks depending on the number of applications received

Apply for Financial Aid FAFSA & California Dream Act Application

Apply now for Financial Aid and don't delay! Funds are limited so apply early and be ready for the 2021-2022 or 2022-2023 academic year. The 2021-2022 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act application application covers Fall 2021, Winter 2022, Spring 2022 & Summer 2022.If you are attending ECC this summer, apply for the 2021-22 award year. The 2022-23 award year for financial aid begins in fall.

If you want to apply in person at the ECC Financial Aid Lab (SSB-229) remember to bring your financial documents for you and your parent(s) as a dependent student. Examples of things to have are social security numbers, date of birth, tax returns or wages (W2). For additional information on the documents needed please visit FAFSA Help

Emergency Assistance

El Camino College received funds under the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) to provide emergency grants for costs related to the disruption of campus operations due to the pandemic. These expenses can include food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and child care.

Supporting documentation is required for all requests with the exception of Food. Examples of documentation include: rental statements, past due/eviction notice, invoices, receipts or statements on business letterhead. Child Care must be provided by a licensed facility, not a relative. If you cannot provide documentation for a category, please attach a separate document explaining why. The committee will only consider requests for categories that are supported by documentation or a written explanation.

Awards are processed every two weeks so it can take up to three to four weeks for funds to be disbursed and deposited in your bank account (if you have a refund preference selected at BankMobile).

 

CARES Emergency Grant

Eligibility Requirements:

Currently enrolled in three (3) units for Summer 2022

Current year (2021-22) FAFSA or CADA application on file and completed the verification process (if selected)

 

Grant Limitations:

CARES Act Emergency Grant is limited to $1,000 for summer and $5,000 for the academic year. Additional limitations may apply, please contact our office if you have questions or need support.

El Camino College is proud to announce that we are offering free tuition and zero fees for students starting in  Summer 2022. The ECC Tuition Relief program is part of the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) which is now offering student debt relief to ECC students who have outstanding student balances. We are allowed to forgive student balances for our campus prior to Spring 2020, especially when the debt is preventing you from re-engaging in your pursuit of a college education. In addition, tuition relief for terms during the pandemic will be automatically applied to your student debt. This tuition relief also applies to Summer 2022 and Fall 2022 for all eligible students but you must apply to qualify. To learn more, please visit our Tuition Relief page. The deadline to apply is September 11, 2022, at 11:59 pm.

El Camino has created the Warrior Emergency Grant to support students who may need additional financial support due to an emergency. The Warrior Emergency Grant committee determines eligibility and notifies applicants of its decision within fourteen (14) business days. The maximum award amount will be determined as requests for assistance continue to be accepted.

Starting now, Income eligible households who need financial assistance for unpaid rent and utilities will be able to apply for help through the CA COVID-19 Rent Relief program.

If you have experienced a financial hardship due to COVID-19, have past due rent or utilities, and have a household income that is not more than 80% of the area median income, you may be eligible to receive help to pay past due or future rent and utilities from the state of California.
