CalFresh is a nutrition assistance program that helps you stretch your food budget and access affordable, nutritious food—including fresh fruits, vegetables, and other healthy items.
CalFresh (also known nationally as SNAP) provides monthly benefits through a Golden State Advantage EBT card, which works like a debit card at participating stores.
We can help you determine your eligibility and guide you through the entire application process.
The CalFresh Outreach Program is funded by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) and offered in partnership with county social service offices. The program helps students and community members with every step of the application process, including:
Step 1: Prescreen
Start by completing a CalFresh prescreen with our Outreach Team. This helps determine your eligibility.
Step 2: Apply
If you may be eligible, apply online with the support of the Outreach Team. (Applying with staff support makes the process faster and smoother.)
Step 3: Application Period
Once your application is submitted, your 30-day application period begins.
Step 4: Interview
The county will contact you to schedule a required phone or in-person interview. If you haven’t heard from them within 7 days, let your Outreach Team know.
Step 5: Submit Verification Documents
During the 30-day period, you must provide verification documents. Examples include:
Step 6: Maintain Your Benefits
In order to keep your CalFresh benefits, you will be required to do the following:
SAR 7 Report: Submit a Semiannual Report about 6 months after approval.
Recertification: Complete a renewal application and interview before your certification period ends.
Students are often asked to submit:
