Student Spotlight: Anthony Omole
Outstanding student to transfer to UC Berkeley
Class of 2018 student speaker Anthony Oluwamayowa Omole will transfer to the University of California, Berkeley as a chemical biology major. An active member of the ECC Honors Transfer Program, EOPS and MESA, he maintained an overall 4.0 GPA while also serving as a math and chemistry tutor on campus.
“El Camino College provided me with a diverse community and opportunities such as the Honors Transfer Program where I presented scientific research at an academic conference – that was a highlight,” said Anthony, who was also named one of 16 “Edison STEM Scholars.” These prestigious $500-$2,000 scholarships are available to students working toward calculus-based degrees in math, engineering and science-related fields.
After moving to the United States from Nigeria in 2014, Anthony was looking for an educational community that would help him adjust to his new life.
“El Camino College provided me with this community,” he said. “I was astounded by
the diversity of people on campus. Not only that, I was also amazed by how much they
were all looking to better themselves with the clubs, organizations, and various programs. El Camino College helped me transition to the
U.S. much better than I had hoped because I was very involved on campus and participated
in many programs and opportunities that the college had to offer.”
